Our Members :: Notes from the Chair
Dear SIGDOC Member,
The results from the election of SIGDOC officers for 2005-2007 have
been tallied by the ACM. The following are the new Board members for
July 1, 2005 - June 30, 2007:
- Chair: Brad Mehlenbacher, NC State University
- Vice-Chair: Rob Pierce, IBM Corp.
- Secretary: Ashley Williams, Neogenesis Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
I'm sure that you join me in congratulating Brad, Rob, and Ashley on
assuming their new roles in SIGDOC. I know that they'll all do an excellent
job.
I also wanted to say "thank you" to the other candidates for
putting their names forward for consideration in this election. SIGDOC
benefits greatly by having volunteers with their talent ready to help
the organization.
Again, congratulations to the new Board officers!
I’d also like to formally recognize all the work the outgoing
officers have provided to the organization over the last few years.
Vice-Chair Michael Priestley has been a strong contributor to SIGDOC
for quite a while. As Vice-Chair, he stepped in where needed to assume
the duties of the Chair (e.g., attending the bi-annual ACM SGB meeting).
I hope that Michael will continue to participate in SIGDOC conferences
and activities in the coming years.
Secretary Michael Albers has been a tireless supporter of SIGDOC for
a number of years. He is one of those people who help carry on the SIGDOC
organizational experience. I look forward to seeing more of his papers
at future SIGDOC conferences.
On a personal note, I'd like to thank everyone for providing me with
the opportunity to serve as Chair since 2003. I found the role to be
a challenging one, but the experience was invaluable. I think that we've
accomplished a lot in the last two years, but there's still a lot remaining
to be done. I know that SIGDOC will continue to grow and improve as we
move forward. Thanks for the ride!
