SIGDOC 2010

As we prepare for the upcoming year, of course the most important announcement is that SIGDOC’s 2010 conference will take place in São Carlos, Brazil, September 26 to 29. With cooperation from both the Federal University of São Carlos and the University of São Paulo, we look forward to a vibrant and exciting conference. USP was recently ranked 38th among all universities in the world. Both schools feature rich environments for student learning.

We will make the call for papers available soon, as well as details for travel and lodging. In the meantime, feel free to contact Junia or Renata using the information below for more details.

Junia Coutinho Anacleto, UFSCar: junia@dc.ufscar.br
Renata Pontine de Mattos Fortes, USP: renata@icmc.usp.br

Also, check the SIGDOC site frequently for updates, and follow SIGDOC on Twitter to receive announcements!

New SIGDOC Chapters

We are excited to announce that the European chapter and the student chapter for SIGDOC have both started formation. They have elected officers, and are currently organizing events and projects to support and promote SIGDOC.

SIGDOC Europe
Carlos Costa, ISCTE, Portugal, President
Aristidis Protopsaltis, University of Westminster, UK, Vice President

SIGDOC Student Chapter at Old Dominion University
Dr. Liza Potts, Faculty Advisor
Tony Robinson, President
Dave Jones, Vice President
Mathieu Reynolds, Sergeant-at-arms

The chapter has gained official recognition from Old Dominion University. It is currently working to officially align itself with SIGDOC and hopes to complete that process very soon. More information is coming on how to officially form SIGDOC Student Chapters at your University.

Improvements to the SIGDOC's online presence

Liza Potts and a team of graduate students at Old Dominion will be supporting our Information Director, Ashley Williams, in managing our digital content. Our hope is to publicize work from members and happenings within the organization much more quickly, and to generate more interest in SIGDOC. SIGDOC has maintained a social networking presence for a while now, but be sure to follow our Facebook group and our Twitter feed as both continue to become more active in the near future. You can simply search both for “SIGDOC” to find the relevant pages. In addition, SIGDOC members often use the hashtag #sigdoc when discussing SIGDOC-related items on Twitter. We’ll announce updates to the site and any news through those systems, as well as our listserv.
