Workshop W4 TITLE: Developing Content for International Knowledge Management Webs LEADER: Rives Hassell-Corbiell, The Learning Edge, Tacoma, Washington KEYWORDS: strategy, knowledge management, web content development, e-publishing, localization, globalization CONTACT PERSON: Rives Hassell-Corbiell CONTACT E-MAIL: riveshc@lepublishing.com ABSTRACT: Large enterprise that competes internationally must have an e-business strategy in order to grow. An e-business strategy should include the following components: e-commerce, care of customers, workforce maximization, supply chain management, e-learning, and e-publishing, all of which depend on a web-based platform. These components provide an information flow that cements relationships with all of the company’s constituents (which include customers, partners, employees, and vendors) to create a competitive advantage. The e-publishing component includes knowledge management content (documents, processes, and resources). This 90-minute workshop focuses on the e-publishing component of an e-business strategy, including the architecture, processes, and content required to develop, implement, and control e-publishing. Workshop content will overview strategies for moving a business through five key stages of relationships with its constituents using e-publishing; list strategic and implementation questions to ask when designing the e-publishing component; and provide guidelines for e-publishing content creation, management, and delivery. Considerations that pertain to localizing and globalizing content for international constituents will be examined and discussed. Key issues, barriers, and options will be examined for each workshop content topic. Through questions and answers, the participants will work through the process by mapping an e-publishing solution for a fictitious company, and selecting appropriate content for each of its constituents. The intended outcome of this workshop is to provide guidelines for defining and developing e-published content on a corporate web, with special attention to an international knowledge management component. |
